Hmmm ... apologies now for my attention to detail but has anyone else noticed that the aircraft shown on their website is a computer altered rip off of a Qantas 747-400. You can even see the Australian flag. Whatever happened to copyright laws?
Good news for STN if it happens.

I heard someone from this outfit doing an interview (large plug rather...!) on BBC Five Live last weekend, their site confirms they are using -200 series Civair. Looks like the heading picture is a QF -300 series.
Civair's previous pedigree is as a chopper operator in Cape Town. Airliners.net - Civair
G'luck to them on start up, but if they are looking to sell tickets on the web, then OK it takes us lot to recognise they are taking the mick on an aircraft image, but it does make you wonder what else they are cutting corners on.
I did have a dig around their site as I am a regular on the CPT run and they seem to be offering a premium biz type service, but details are pretty thin at best. Also, although they are using -200, they seem to be claiming a sector time of LHR-CPT of 12 hours, BA and SA timetable 11.5 using -400's, so they must have an aircraft that can do the trip non-stop, no mention of fuel stops.
Maybe large doses of Caveat Emptor may be in order.
cheers..

Non-stop to CPT off STN's runway length could prove difficult in any 747 without a weight penalty.
If it arrives at STN considerably earlier than it's 0700STA then parking may be a problem because of all the Loco B737s.

hmmm.. interesting.
You can get through the booking process to the final screen where they ask you to bung in your cc detils, on an unsecured web page it would seem, with the following interesting statement..
Your Money is safe! Your funds are directly deposited to the account of an independent Auditing Company for safekeeping. Only once your flight has departed, are the funds released to CivAir.
A number of spelling mistakes through the booking process, no secure web page, seemingly a blagged piccy on the web site. Not sure I would recommend Granny use this lot on her next trip to the Cape.
Doesn't seem much else positive when you search prrune on Civair either.
Shame really, BA, SA and VS (when Uncle Richard can be bothered) need a bit of competition on this run.

staggered they they are getting so much publicity ..
1 aircraft will not work !
...and appears more like "Trotter Airways" (see Delboy) in the promos...see also Qantas........for similar schemes.
BUT all credit to them for gettiing a massive 5 minute plug on BBC Radio 5 live last Saturday AM ...how did that happen ?
personally speaking it appears doomed !

Shame.. but Civair has failed to push back.. and it looks like they need a copy of your family tree and a sample of DNA to process your refund.
Pity LON-CPT is a run that could have used some decent competition Civair Refunds

Does it not seem that rather a lot of information is being requested here, much of it that should already be known by the airline? How can we check that this is not a clever way of harvesting bank and personal details including copies of bank statements? I'm sure that it is probably legit, but I certainly wouldn't entrust all those details to an unknown organisation in Africa.

the Civair page says the information is required by the RSA authorities for exchange control reasons, this is probably correct, I work for a company that does a lot of buisiness in the RSA and these regulations are v.real.

Captain Airclues.
I thought exactly the same as you when i looked at the website, i can't begin to think why they need so much information.
I certainly would'nt be willing to give that amount of personal information to an outfit we know little or nothing about!
Althought i suppose if you want your money back you have no choice!
Matt.

How did they get CAA approval if finance was not in place ? They shouldn't really be saying "finance will be in place in January 2005" as it is very potentially misleading. Not very sound business tactics bearing in mind they are already offering refunds. Joe Public will look on with caution.

So they dont have the route applications (if applied for!) approved for, no aircraft to operate said route and have financiers with itchy feet................ SAA / BA must be laughing their heads off. Shame about the people who have bought tickets but according to the representative on the watchdog program the cash is held in escrow and will be repaid.....time will tell!
Memory serves me right, wasnt there a proposed operator whom even built his own airport then leased a 747 from SAA and ran the route for only a matter of weeks before it ceased. Cant remember the guys name (De Klerk?) but Im sure he operated an airline called wonderair......... surprises that another operator just doesnt seem to last, especially when the route must be a cash cow for the SAA / BA monopoly.
