DERRY/LONDONDERRY
According to CAA provisional stats, just over 4500 people used the route in May, but bearing in mind there were no RYR flights for five days due to the airport closure, then that works out at just over 100 pax per flight, or roughly 65-70% load (pax restrictions on the 737-800 into LDY). Not the worst, not the best.
RYR schedules have highlighted the route going down to 5 per week over the summer for some thime, and restarting daily in September. Not really news, though I was surprised that RYR actually chose LDY-EMA in the first place. Certainly Bristol is a better bet.

hmm i must say all the times ive done the route its been well under 100,,, last tuesday it was ema-ldy 71+1 and ldy-ema 41+1. I didnt think ryanair would ever do ema-ldy to start with
Well, the stats are there for all to see. Perhaps weekends are busier or somthing.
You must've known the route was going 5 weekly if you do the route, or are you kept in the shade about these kind of things?

A note about FR LDY loads
Please note: The usual caveat regarding yields and loads applies to everything that I'm about to say.
Taking into account the payload restrictions at LDY, by my reckoning, average flown loads on EMA-LDY this year (Jan - May) are about 61%. This is weaker than LPL-LDY (about 72%), but stronger than PIK-LDY (around 51%, although this is a much newer route).
EMA-LDY has shown strong load factor growth in both April and May compared to the same months last year (when it was pretty rubbish). EMA-LDY has stronger LFs than several other EMA routes such as EMA-NOC, EMA-RMI, EMA-AHO and EMA-SZG (looking at data for Jan to May this year).
That doesn't mean it won't be dropped though ...

Its all very well you giving out the load factors, but do you know how many were given for free? Don't forget ema-noc is one of the routes which Ryanair will carry dangerous goods, other than spare parts from base-base, which makes alot fo money. To be honest I dont really care if we carry on flying to ldy, im just told when and where to fly. But the attitude in the crew room is generally negative towards ldy. And just because its on sale for winter does not mean it can not be dropped like a stone at any point.

Hopefully not....happened to transit there Wednesday 22nd. An LTE A320 landed. Crew not allowed to disembark pax as an FR was on approach from LPL, with a First Choice A320 not far behind. LTE had to wait 30 mins until FR turned around before pax allowed off. First Choice landed and airport had to close as it remained on runway as no space on apron. Ground handling a joke, poorly managed eventually LTE departed (took nearly two hours to turn it around - no fuel required). This place needs managing, badly!

The main problem is that its a tiny tiny airport, and needs a bigger apron, but it does well for the size, doesn't help having flights at the same time, I often meet the PIK a/c, and while its coming onto stand im not able to carry on boarding pax. But the ground handling agents are nice I must admit, you can only do so much with so few staff. And im sure when more routes are added the staffing level will be reviewed.

Ork-ldy
Has anyone spoken to Aer Arann about a Derry-Cork service. Their flights to BHD are very well supported and Galway is doing OK. The North-West is a horrendous journey by road from Cork and there is no rail link. Might be worth a try.

Yes I agree it is a small airport, and I am all in favour of small airports offering hassle free air access. However, when they are poorly managed and schedule three aircraft to arrive together and they do not have the infrastructure to accomodate, the convenience soon becomes a nightmare......for everybody....simple scheduleing....even with a bigger ramp if you don't manage yoour infrasturcture it will happen again.

" LTE departed (took nearly two hours to turn it around - no fuel required)". Runawayedge.
WED 22ND AUG EGAE LTE6352 A320 ATA1234Z from EICK. The aircraft DID uplift 8411 litres of Jet a1 and departed to GCRR at 1400Z. Now i'm no wiz at maths but isn't that 1 hr 26 mins??? stay in the land of nod.
The ramp at EGAE is indeed very small and the airport is trying to cope with a huge increase in demand. Operators don't take too well to being told at what time of the day to arrive/depart at BTW! They tend to do the dictating even though they are warned of congestion with often company aircraft.
Work should start soon on increasing the r/w 08/26 length plus Main Apron size and an additional taxiway.
