BOURNEMOUTH looks set for a boost following a government announcement

BOURNEMOUTH looks set for a boost following a government announcement that
will allow 3,500,000 extra passengers to pass through the airport.
The framework for the future of air transport over the next 30 years has been
unveiled in a government White Paper and included in the vision are plans for
additional terminal capacity at Bournemouth.
Bournemouth Airport chiefs say it is news they have been preparing for.
Work to improve terminal facilities has already been carried out to the tune
of £1 million and options for increased capacity include rebuilding the
terminal or extending it.
Bosses at Bournemouth Airport say talks are under way with some low-cost
airlines in the hope they will be able to increase the number of destinations in
the UK and abroad from Bournemouth.
Spencer Brace, marketing manager at the airport, said: "This is good news for
the local economy. It will prompt businesses to start up here and in the
surrounding region and it will be good for inbound tourism."
Talks have started between the airport and English Nature and the Environment
Agency to ensure expansion safeguards the nearby sites of special scientific
interest and nature conservation interests.
Negotiations are also under way with councils to find ways of improving
public transport to the airport and improvements to the main access road.

What does the Government announcement mean for Bournemouth Airport?

· Bournemouth Airport has an important role to play in taking the strain off
the crowded airports in the South East.

· Bournemouth Airport currently has no capacity constraints and is unlikely
to face any in the near future. There is capacity to increase by four times the
current level of passengers with the current facilities and there are also
plans for the expansion of the current terminal or the building of an entirely
new terminal, should it be necessary.

· Bournemouth Airport has been serving the needs of passengers in the south
for almost 60 years and will continue to do so in the future. The Airport has a
loyal passenger base and with its hassle free travel experience we are
confident that customers will continue to choose Bournemouth in preference to the
more congested airports in the South East.

· Surface access and public transport links to Bournemouth Airport are
extremely important to our customers. We currently provide a bus service to
Bournemouth town centre and we are working closely with a number of local bodies to
progress these transportation improvements.
