GA in Angola
G'day all,
I have just scored a job working in Cacuaco and Malongo. Not flying but in the oil and gas industry.
Just wondering if there is any sort of GA over there at all where a frustrated Aussie CPL might be able to get his hands on a bugsmasha for hire. What are the local licencing restrictions like, ie if I wanted to convert to a local licence/rating. Would just need a PPL and perhaps look at IF rating if it was worth while.
Would appreciate any advice from others who have or are working there.
Regards
IJ

Hi,
I was told that it doens´t exist. It used to before the war, but no more. Only private GA planes, but no one will rent them. To affraid you will leave with the plane. Also not recomendable because of the lack of maintenance!

Heard there was a C172 available a bunch of miles South of Luanda down the coast. Some crowd of loonies wanted me to do some paradropping for them using the beast. Lost contact so it never happened but it might be worth taking a look around in the area.....

Thanks for the responses guys.
Have been in Luanda for nearly 4 weeks now and have had a good look around the airport especially SONAIR's setup but that was on a different subject.
So far the only piston aircraft I've seen is a fairly tired looking Baron in the back of one of SONAIR's hangars.
CP, don't suppose you recall the area where the meatbombs were? I did loads of jumping and jump flying back in Australia.
Cheers

Sorry mate. Haven't been in Angolsch for about five years now and the brain cells have been dying like flies what with this lousy SAB crud we're forced to drink. I'll ask around and get back to you if I can find someone to remind me........

Re: Castle
Wasn't that the stuff they had to stop producing when all those hillbillies went blind a few months back?
I'll stick to Gilroy's, Mitchells and Nottingham Road for now and Windhoek at a pinch.

Definately not!
CP, Castle is still produced and seeing as it has been my staple diet for several years (except for the time I had to drink Windhoek - and did not complain about it), and the fact that I still can see, it can't be too bad and definately was not the stuff that killed the hillbillies.
In fact, I don't have lunch or breakfast or dinner if it doesn't say Charles, Glass or Castle somewhere on the menu.
