Post SAAF briefing to the Defence Portfolio Committee

SAAF briefing to the Defence Portfolio Committee on transformation in the SAAF presented yesterday (8 April 2003).

The following points, in no particular order, may be of interest:

The 2003/04 budget for the SAAF is R2,148,673,000.

This is made up of:

Fixed Cost: 84% (RM1,799,755,554)
Operational: 16% (R348,917,446)

Integration of the first new aircraft (Agusta A109) into the Air Force to
start in November 2003.
Planned users of the A109 include 17 Sqn (Waterkloof), 22 Sqn (Ysterplaat),
15C (Port Elizabeth), 17C (Louis Trichardt) and 15 Sqn (Durban).

A grant had been received from the American Congress with which they were
able to buy new engines for certain of the planes.

With kind permission from the SAAF Newsgroup.
