Unhappy SAA cancels flight to troubled Ivory Coast

News24

Johannesburg - The South African Airways' flight to Abidjan scheduled for Wednesday afternoon has been cancelled due to instability in Ivory Coast.

Rich Mkhondo of SAA said on Wednesday the airline did not want to put its passengers and property at risk.

A French-brokered deal to end the four-month conflict in Ivory Coast appeared to be close to collapse on Wednesday. There was violence on the streets and dissent within the government and armed forces.

France announced earlier in the day that it was ready to evacuate its nationals at any time.

Mkhondo said the flight, SAA 3058, scheduled to leave at 14:00, would still go to Accra in Ghana, but would no longer carry on to Abidjan.

Mkhondo said the next flight to Abidjan was scheduled for 09:50 on Friday, and passengers would be advised later in the week if it was going to be cancelled.
