look for flight school in South Africa
Hi All,
I am from Hong Kong and looking for getting a PPL license in Johannesburg as its lower cost then Aus and Nz. I am planning to go there in Feb 2020. There are few question i wanna know about:
1. Some people told me the weather is so good that you can fly everyday. Is it true, especially in Feb.
2. Any flight school is recommended? I am looking into Aeronav. But it requires considerable amount of deposit and their email is not responsive. 43 flight school sound good but is quiet expensive. Any other school you guys can recommend?
3. I wanna get the license asap, so i wanna get the medical certificate for solo before arrival as i know that the process of getting medical can take up to few weeks.
4. Hows the cost of accommodation around the school, should i rent a car?
If you live in Johannesburg or even being an instructor there, please contact me. I will be very very thankful!!! I can say no one in Hong Kong choose South Africa for flying, so i don't have any information so far. Your small help will be a great flavor!!!

Está servira para distraerle.
Many long African moons ago I dod some flight training with and for these people.
FTS Grand Central.
They're as commercial a bunch as the rest of them but always had a pretty good ethos and a well disciplined flight staff. I think your interests might be served by contacting them and finding out whether they still run an accommodation based operation.
The answer to your February question is that a five or six week PPL is certainly possible provided that you have structured it properly and have the $s saved up front.
In that regard, do yourself a favour or two. Never pay large amounts of money to anyone upfront for training. It's a better idea to put a couple of grand US$ into a kitty and then pay as you fly by card.
Get yourself a medical before you pay out anything, There used to be an AME at the field and he could certainly issue ATPL renewals on the spot:
Aerospace Medicine, Grand Central.
Ingham might have retired by now but someone else will probably have bought into the business.
Lastly, I would just check with your regulatory authority and make sure that in their eyes, you will have what you think you'll have with an SA PPL which is something that I don't remember as being of any great significance or advantage in the wide world of aviation.

Hello again,
I replied to your other post.
I see that you want to be based in Johannesburg?
There are many flight schools available!
The ones mentioned are Lanseria (FALA) based and Grand Central (FAGC) based.
There are many more at FAGM, FAVV, FAWB, etc, etc... I fly my own twin out of FAKR.
If you have not come right with a school, you are more than welcome to contact me personally, I can recommend a dozen. But ultimately it will be where you feel comfortable in.
Best
