Bunia?

We just got a request for a flight to Bunia which includes two nights. Has anyone been there lately? Reading the home office website makes it sound like a place to avoid. Checked booking.com and there is one hotel. No reviews, looks ok on photos, but anything can......

Gold Stars Hotel.

Any input appreciated.

Ciao

I can tell you that I used to fly a lot of UN peacekeepers to Bunia and would not be thrilled to overnight there. As of a few years ago, it was the center stage for a lot of conflict in the region.

I'd suggest dropping the passengers and going to Entebbe. I know that's more paperwork and a bit more fuel, but infinitely more secure.

I used to overnight at the Karibuni Hotel between UN flights a couple of years ago. MAF has a base in Bunia--worth checking with them?

Thanks for the input. A little fuel and paperwork is worth the safety aspect!

Avoid at all costs.
The LRA are operating near the area.
Poor runway and ATC.
High terrain and bad weather.

Nip over to Entebbe or if you want to stay in DRC, Goma.

If you stay in Goma, suggest an armored ride-share. Still better to go to Entebbe and guarantee civilized accommodations and security. Just a biased opinion, I guess.
