Heard it was at Vipingo, and it was the 172 5Y CEM. Heavy rain in the area at the time may have been a factor, but sadly the rumor I got was one on board and one fatality. If that's true, its another sad day for Kenyan aviation, and the family involved. Any updates to this from anyone?.

I hear that the a/c was being assembled and being readied for delivery to NRB..
I fear for the state of aviation in Kenya..
This was not pilot error according to preliminary results from AAIB it was mechanical failure..This only makes me want to fault kcaa for allowing every tom dick and harry to do the task of assembly.. Remember just because we have been touching planes for several years doesn't make us Engineers..KCAA should review the legislation and specially touch on AMOs who tend to do a/c assembly...My opinion.

I'm really impressed that the AAIB has come out with a report, and even more that they are so definite about the cause of the accident being mechanical. The photo I saw of the wreck was almost unrecognisable as a plane!! There was so little left it was hard to see anything intact in order to make a definitive conclusion....

Who was assembling it at the coast? I heard that the maintenance op at Kijipwa had closed/been sold - the engineers were last heard of at Wilson looking for new jobs. I didn't know someone else was building or assembling aircraft there. If that's the case was this a test flight perhaps? Very unlikely to end up with a heavy storm around the area at the time...
