LMLMLM,
Many apologies, you're absolutely right. The NCAA have suspended the operations of Dana so they can carry out a operational audit.
The civil airline business in Nigeria seems to be in chaos at the moment, with only a couple of operators, like Arik and MedView running relatively smoothly. There's still a lot of talk about Aero being forcibly merged with the defunct Air Nigeria to make a single carrier and national airline, but so far it's only talk. But with Amcon holding a majority in both companies because of their toxic debt, it could happen. However, there's a lot of opposition to it also, so equally it may not

Engine failures happens and crew are trained to deal with it.
Dana's history with the dual engine out does not make it easier for them I guess!

I go through the avherald website everyday and I see a lot of engine shut down in flight incidents and other incidents reported there. I don't recall the various aviation agencies in those countries suspending the flight operations of those airlines.
Madam minister of aviation however says its "standard practice globally" to do so.

Dana Air ops suspended
Dana Air seems to be having a lot of those lately. It isdisproportionate to the number of airplanes (5) and hours flown. Thelatest one that triggered the suspension appears to be the flight that took offfrom Port Harcourt for Lagos. Enroute it had a tech with the engine(Probable engine failure or shutdown) and returned to Port Harcourt. Thenext morning, the pilots (a lady and a gent) were seen boarding two differentflights Arik and Aero back to Lagos, while engineers were seen working on thebad engine.
Dana's double-engineflameout last year June 3, that led to the MD-83 crash was unprecedented inNigerian aviation annals. Before then, they had several other enginefailure/malfunction issues. I wonder: does Pratt & Whitney stillmake those JT-8Ds or at least still stock parts for them? They mustbe, because hundreds of MD-80s are still flying with American airlines.

I think Dana really has to step it up or they'd be shutting down for good. Either improve on the maintenance or change the entire fleet if they cant keep up with these old machines. They have had enough challenges in filling the seats as is after the first major setback.

They ever figure out what led to the crash last year?
Still hearing rumours to this date. Nothing concrete. I personally think if you can make it all the way to within 10 miles of the runway and then collapse you must have done something drastic(like shutting down the wrong engine) to not stay in the air for 2 more minutes..

Madame Minister called the crash of the E-120 at MMIA last week an 'act of god' ... it'll be an act of god if there's any improvement in Nigerian aviation operations whilst she's in power!
