Nigeria Hajj

  • It looks like it's going to be a very bad Hajj:
  • Kabo Air has severe cash problems and the NCAA/GACA have discovered many issues with their "new" 744. The company's survival is questionable.
  • Max Air has severe cash problems and the NCAA/GACA are actively investigating numerous safety issues and the non-payment of crew salaries. Some of the rats may have already started fleeing the sinking ship! The company's survival is unlikely.
  • The drunken, high level, soon-to-be-former manager at Max Air (who is also a former Kabo manager) is said to be starting his own 744 Hajj operation in Nigeria. He's trying to use two junkyard planes that were recently registered in Armenia and/or Iran. He's recruiting crews through a current manager at Orient Thai. Really! Even if he does find a way to avoid NCAA scrutiny I really doubt this operation will ever turn a wheel.
  • Pray for the Nigerian pilgrims! Their lives are really in danger this year as they try to accomplish their holy duty.

gear_yanker, what a lovely moniker!

Thanks for speaking out, please continue spreading the truth; this time for the pilgrims' sake - no more swapping of human blood or body parts for aircraft parts.

Happy landings with a yanked gear!

Nigerian Hajj

One operators downfall is another operators opportunity

meridian, medview, Orient Thai et all will pick up the slack and 95,000 hajjis will make their happy way to Mecca

Next year will be more interesting when the wet lease wide body availability dries up

The Hajj Commission pilgrim award to the major Nigerian Hajj airlines is shockingly low. Expect Kabo or Max to cease all Nigerian operations soon. Any insolvency will make it easier for the remaining airlines to survive. ////The race is on to place 5N registered aircraft on contracts outside of Nigeria. Is there any market for clapped-out, 560 passenger 747s with a Nigerian registration? ////The start-up 744 operation mentioned in the original post will not be operating for this year's Hajj....as predicted.

Well, there is a market for Hajj and Umrah B744 in high density configuration. But 5N counts unfortunately not really as the safest haven for these birds and Kabo and Max have a reputation - if you can call that reputation at all.

I understood that there are also safety concerns with regards to the Max and Kabo birds.
If they go belly up, the question is, if the remaining airlines are capable to do the job and if they can get capacity. If the safety-concern-rumour is true, then they cannot take the "Queens of the skies"

The wide-body market is this year already pretty dry...
