Jokes aside HCMM has improved in recent months. Several airlines now doing schedules into there. Some quick info...
jeta fuel is available reliably thru two local suppliers.
There is a Dubai/UAE based company running handling on ground. Expensive but they offer all normal services - SKA.
Approach to landing is only over the sea to right base 05 but can be a tail wind at times. But no approach allowed or desired over the city
Take off can be either direction but a good climb out over the sea to get altitude before setting course is a must.
There is a tower controller but services and practical help are taken with a pinch of humor. Co ordinating two aircraft in the zone can sometimes be stressful.
Not sure what accommodations are like but most operators don't stay over much.
Military presence around the area and town.
Need to get all your clearances sorted such as permissions from TFG local government..... And so on

I will try to enjoy my 2 nights there.

Accomodation is planned to be in SKA compound.

You don't need to keep your engines running as someone suggested- The place is ok with good security, ground handling is to the ICAO standard and better than some other airports in the region.

Approach is as per FOXCOTTE suggested.

Was there in '90s... It seems that today's situation in Mogadishu is much better since "black hawk down" story happened...

As a holiday destination, it wouldn't exactly be on my list of must-see places, but its a bit better now than its reputation. The odd shot n' shell around town, but if you're with SKA it probably won't be a bad experience either. Definitely one for the logbook and memoirs though.

Keep your wits about you, take advice from the professionals, keep a discreet low profile and enjoy the experience. Good luck!!

Ps. Good watermelons, cheap sugar and cheap tins of tuna available near airport if you're desperate!

full story... well almost

PM if more details needed.

Arrive from north in FIR on HF. then to VHF at about 150mn. VOR and DME came in in reasonsable range. Draft full R Nav plates provied, and a tactical approach also. basically over field at FL 100, xwind, downwind and dirty dive to 4 miles, slightly offset, ie over water. Landing 05 take off 23.

Good atc with several other ac on VHF freq. Turkish Airlines on stand, landed, and parked next to 2 UN choppers and fire truck. Pax off loaded, and refuelled ready, so ready to go, as planned two days later. When ac put to bed, bus to terminal, the second bus to SKA compound, 5 mins away, and still on airport security area. Excellent facilities, 40ft containers, with two rooms, inc shower, flushing toilet, Good AC, flat screen tv with sat channels, wifi, fridge microwave, and big bed. (HARD). thin curtains over the windows. but as breakfast 7-8 no major problem.
Rain the previous day so compound muddy.
Catering excellent, reasonable selection and good quality. Bar limited stock, but beer was cold.
On second day I went fishing with the SKA B1900 crew. A nice walk to the beach.
NO roaming mobile service, so must get local sim card. WiFi in camp very good. Skype wins OK.
Stayed 2 nights, not 3 as planned, and total cost exc fuel was less than 2kus$.
Easy departure, to the north weather avoidance required.

Plenty of pics plus copies of the IFR charts available.

Willingly go again.

glf
