Going to Ethiopia
Hello!
Today I got my Visa for my trip to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
I live in the northern part of Europe and my plan is to visit the office of Ethiopian Airlines to see what my prospects there are..
Btw, I am type rated on the B737, but as many others No hours on type.
What do you others think of this idea?
Awaiting your replies!
Thank you

Send me the money instead ! !
Did you read the threads on this forum about Ethiopian ? are you willing to work for free ?
They need Capt's (but don't want to admit to it) did you check they really need FO's & will hire you in preference to a local ? or you just fancy a holiday there anyhow

Dear Captplaystation:
Yes, I have read the threads regardin ET.
And yes, its awful they did not pay the chaps and not keeping their end of the promise.
But I see no other choice for myself.
Really, what options do I have?
Do you have any better suggestions?
Pay for line training and fly for free for 500h and then get the boot?
Or
I can send hundreds of CVs all over the world in hope for a response (which I have done.. And btw, I did not receive any replies expect fo "you don't match our profile with no hours on type"
I know that ET is expanding and adding more ACs to their fleet.
And yes, I know that ET has their own school taking in cadets.
But I really cannot say if they are in need of FO's.
The best way is to go and have a look for yourself, unless you have some inside scoop? Then please tell me..
You ask if I fancy a vacation there?
I see it as an opportunity to visit a place I probably never would have visited.
So even if they will spit at me at the office of ET I will have a couple of days in Ethiopia which I think I will enjoy. I'm still young.

@captplaystation:
ET does need FO's for their fast expanding fleet because even the cadet program couldn't keep up with the expansion for many reasons. they r just NOT that desperate enough regarding FO's to advertise vacancies like the ones seen for the left seat position. so i don't see why they will not b willing to hire someone who knocks at their door. the issue about them not paying until finishing line training i think is only for captains. even if it comes out to b true, i m sure its much better to struggle for couple of months rather than sitting and waiting for the perfect job which may not happen in the near future. the management might b one of the worst when it comes to treating its pilots with respect which, by the way, is not limited to expats. local FO's also go through the same ugly process of abuse. not surprising when many of the senior pilots r ex-airforce who r unimaginably hard headed ppl . relatively the situation gets better when upgraded to command position. but still the question is, can there b a better choice ? at the end of the day, its a matter of choosing the lesser devil. if we criticize everyone from P2F's to guys like DECODED, then whats the alternative we r offering ? its conventional wisdom that static friction is always greater than dynamic friction. so even the universe tells us that its always a bit tough until it gets rolling. if w have any useful info, lets help the job seekers otherwise at least it would b better if we think twice before throwing in negative things. cheers !

OK, point taken, I wish you the best of luck, it just seems a long way to go expecting to be welcomed (as an expat, into a country not renowned for welcoming expat pilots, if you believe the threads) & offered a job ahead of the locals.
If you are combining it with a bit of "exploring the world", nothing lost I guess.
Let us know, always interesting to hear the conclusion (+ve or -ve) to these ventures.
