looks like the weather played a big part -
Accident: Nationale E120 at Port Gentile on Oct 12th 2011, unsafe nose gear, overran runway, wings twisted
one of our pilots was on the ramp and watched it happen - a timely reminder to observe Vref, and touchdown point in those types of conditions.
There are also runway works in progress at POG, notice the lack of level / compacted clearway at the end of the runway !!
Luckily only minor injuries, but the a/c is a mess.

EMB120 off runway in Gabon
EMB120 of Allegiance Air went off the runway in Gabon on landing in bad weather. Apparently aircraft aquaplaned and left end of runway at approx 20 knots and into a ditch. Both wings broke so aircraft a right off. No one injured fortunately.

Who was operating PYO? Judging by the TAF the weather was typical low cloud, rain and stormy. Glad I wasn't bumbling about in that trying to sort out gear warnings etc. Judging by the wings, there was a substantial amount of reverse being applied, understandably! Perhaps the result of aquaplaning late in the landing roll which in some ways could nullify any substantial 'exceedance' of Vref.
Note to operators: I guess this would be no place for a low time captain to be operating?

According to Allegiance they hoofed the aircraft off of their AOC a couple of months back. Seems there is currently a question about who the operator was, if there was one at all.......

Owned by Camwood
It was operated by Nationale and owned by Camwood Aviation( or whatever they are called now). They also own ZS-SAU. Both these aircraft used to be leased by Naturelink. Aircraft as the rumor goes were in a excellent condition. But we all know what POG is like during a storm.

Well legally there needed to be a South African operator in the mix, and its not clear if there was. There are lots of murmerings in the hallways of CAA of this one. Think it might get messy.

The weather was reported below the minimums, and she was cleared to land and advised by controller about the weather, she say it was in their company minimums. I was number 3 to land behind the q300, suddenly controller tells us there is airplane crash in the end of runway 21, we went to libraville, the pg was closed the whole day.

Big Problems!
Looks like this accident might have opened a can of worms. Hope the crew were following all applicable regulations. This aircraft is surely equipped with CFR and FDR which surely will be scrutinized by CAA and Embraer investigators. Does anybody know who the pilots were.
