Emirates/1Time/Solenta/Comair
Emirates is apparently having a recruiting drive this week 14/15 in Jhb? Anybody know where?
Anybody get the call from 1Time yet, heard they interviewed last week?
Heard a unconfirmed rumor that Solenta will be operating ATR`s for Comair but the crew had to do the Comair psychometric testing and Comair interview etc but none actually made the grade? Anybody know anything about that?

South Africa – 09 March 2011 – Emirates will host information sessions in South Africa next week as part of the global Emirates bid to recruit more pilots to service the airline’s rapidly growing fleet.
The information sessions will be held at the Birchwood Hotel & OR Tambo Conference Centre in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg on Monday, 14 March 2011 at 14:00 and on Tuesday, 15 March at 10:00.
The sessions will provide interested pilot candidates with the opportunity to obtain information on Emirates, its selection programme, the benefits of living and working in Dubai and details of Emirates’ remuneration package.
“We are looking to recruit an additional 500 pilots to join our talented team over the next 12 months. To meet this figure, we are running information sessions in key locations around the globe, including South Africa,” said Captain Alan Stealey, Emirates Divisional Senior Vice President, Fleet Operations. “The opportunity to fly some of the industry’s newest and most innovative aircraft is often a key factor for pilots when looking at a potential career move, and at Emirates we meet this key requirement. We have an excellent career path for our pilots as well as ongoing training and development.”
Emirates currently has 2550 pilots from 89 different nationalities operating the latest Airbus and Boeing aircraft.
The Emirates information sessions are open to candidates with a minimum of 4,000 total and 2,000 multi-engine jet hours; or a total of 2,500 hours on a modern, commercial multi-engine, multi-crew jet aircraft (simulator time not accepted for flying hours calculation). All applicants must be fluent in English. Chosen candidates will be provided with a round trip ticket to Dubai from an Emirates destination to attend the selection programme.
Emirates has had a presence in South Africa since 1995. The airline now flies three-times daily from its hub in Dubai to Johannesburg, daily to Durban and will launch a second daily service to Cape Town on 27th March, connecting passengers to 111 destinations across six continents. The airline is also one of the major sponsors of sporting events in South Africa, such as the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the Emirates Airline SA Sevens that took place in George.

Comair and Solenta
Hi Malagant
Comair did conduct psych's on some of our ATR crews yes.
Some made it, some didn't. - same as any airline in the world, some pilots get in, others don't.
Doesn't mean they're bad pilots, just different culture-fit.
Given the different nature of scheduled airline to contract flying, there may be different requirements.... psychometrically-speaking, of course - the psycho's are there to look for company fit, passenger service orientation etc...
If some failed the sim-ride, or an exam on AWOPS, type-technical, Safety, Quality ( SMS ) then it's another story....
Comair has chosen who they need, for now, for the ATR, and will continue to assess our pilots, as the demand for extra crew and extra aircraft from Solenta grows into the future - exciting times, huh ?
Brgds, fly safe..

The crews are still employed by Solenta, but of course Comair wants to exercise some kind of authority like usual etc. Those tests are more than passenger orientation kinda thing, crews hardly ever interact with the passengers! Anyway, good luck to Solenta!
