Fly540 Angola
Just wondering whats hapening in Luanda with Fly540,
On Lonrho website it states "operations are commencing" but they have been trying to start there since 2008,no AOC,
Any information would be appreciated as I am looking for a job on the ATR and heard they are going to operate several ATR72s.

I have heard that this operation has been on going for 3 years, but still they have been unsucessful in obtaining an AOC from the Angolan CAA.
Rumour has it that many pilots have been on full pay since September 2009,and never flew during this period.I can confirm from a friend that many pilots were contracted to a Luanda base however upon their arrival were sent immediatley to Cabinda, they were then told to give up their passports for the purpose of having work permits stamped, but they were apparently not given their passports back, even I have been told at least two suffered from Malaria and Pnumonia and typhoid and still were unable to leave Cabinda, which does not have any medical facilities, two guys currently have been held there since April, and rumour has it that the Director based in Luanda has purposley held these pilots passports and made excuses,ie they are still in immigration,as he was scared they would just leave and then the operation would never start,
Apparently this airline is financed by Lonrho a London based company.
Luanda and more particulary Cabinda is an extremely dangerous place to visit, let alone be trapped their,I sincerely hope that those guys without passports can get some kind of assistance, maybe Consular/embassy support from thier home nations to leave that place.
In my opinion any one would need to be desperate to even contemplate visiting Cabinda let alone work there, reports this week from reliable news networks reported chineese workers living in Cabinda being murdered,
This is definelty a NO GO PLACE.
