Botswana
Am travelling as SLF in and around Botswana within the next 2 weeks.
I'm assuming that a JNB-GBE flight with a 25 miunte change in GBE onto a flight to Maun is no big deal? It's all Air Botswana, so maybe we stay on the aircraft? BP 212-BP 064.
Secondly, will be in the back of some smaller aircraft within Bostwana as well.
Any tips for me or my fellow travellers in terms of luggage or anything else?
Any chance of sitting up front and having a go if it was just the family on board?
More than happy to post in SLF if this is more deserving of that forum.
Thanks.

Soft bags and keep it light for the SEP puddle jumpers. Be nice to the pilot and having a go shouldn't be a major problem. The seat next to him is regarded as one of the pax seats in any case so no prob sitting up front.

BW Johannesburg-Maun service stopped
07 Thu, Oct 2010
AIR Botswana has discontinued its direct services between Johannesburg and Maun and will now operate the route in both directions via Gaborone.
However, the airline said this would not affect airfares, airport taxes and passenger service fees. Departure and arrival times at Johannesburg also remain unchanged.
Passengers travelling in either direction will now stay on board the aircraft during a short technical stop at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport and then clear immigration and customs at their destination.
Refer to TNW October 13 for more details

Botswana violated its open skies agreement and is refusing to allow any aircraft to fly directly into Maun or Kasane other than Air Botswana or Air Namibia.
So in retaliation, South Africa refused to allow direct flights to Jo'burg with Air botswana, they now have to stop over in Gabs.
You shouldnt have to change planes in Gabs as it is just a splash and dash with fuel. Although expect to get roasted while you sit on the tarmac in the fokker with no Aircon on!
As per baggage. Please please for the love of christ bring the least amount of luggage that you can, and in small soft duffle bags. The door to the cargo pod on a C206 is small, and it makes our life harder trying to load them in if they are huge.
It is also stinking hot at the moment, so minimal luggage will be appreciate as we do our best to clear the trees!
They have laundary places in the camps, so you only need to bring 3 sets of clothes anyway!!!
Out of curiosity, which camps are you going to?
Hope this helps!

Back now.
Thanks for the advice all.
It was Caravans with MackAir for us. Maun to Stanleys, then Stanleys to Kasane with a drop-off in Setuvi en route. All good fun, and our nice pilot let me grab the yoke for a bit.
And Gabs was indeed very warm on the F-28 whilst we killed time on the deck.
Amazing country though.
