Stobbart Challenge previously Henshaw Challenge
Steve Noujaim is set to depart Southend Airport at about 04:30z 31st August 2010 in his RV-7 G-IIXF, in an attempt to break Alex Henshaw's record (London - Cape Town - London) which technically still stands, although it has been bettered in the 'wrong' direction. See The Cape Challenge, flight record bid
At the same time, Steve will be attempting to break the record set by Chalkie Stobbart between Cape Town and London. The Stobbart Challenge is for a return trip, in either direction, between Cape Town and London. The record now stands at 3 days 15 hours and 17 minutes for a solo flight in the C-1b class of the FAI.
You will be able to follow Steve's progress by logging on to the Cape Challenge website, or by going direct to Track Aircraft
May Steve have a pleasant and safe flight. See you in Cape Town at about 16:20z on 01 September.
Chuck.

Hi Guys,
Steve is sure doing extremely well, that is one fast RV-7. He left Brazza 20 minutes ahead of his planned schedule, thanks to good tailwinds on first leg and a quick turn-around in Tamanrasset. Steve was airborne Brazza at 05:04z and just over 1800nm at 165kts means he will be in Cape Town at about 16:00z which means he should knock about 55 minutes off the record, and that is exactly why records are set in the first place!
Steve is planning about 8 hours sleep in the Cape (10 hours total turn-around time) so the round trip will most likely be broken too.
Well done to Steve and his team for a well planned and executed flight thus far.
All interested parties are welcome to come to Signature Flight Services to welcome Steve this evening.

Steve touched down at 15:44Z unofficially breaking the present record London - Cape Town in the C1b class by 01:10.
Steve is now enjoying a well deserved rest and is scheduled to depart FACT at 02:25Z.
Well done to Steve and the team.

hi all,
the following from FACT:
official ATA was 15:44:01
official ATD was 03:20:26
Steve was very tired when he arrived, and could have done with a few hours more sleep this morning, but is well on his way (Currently overhead southern Namibia)

Hi All,
Fingers crossed for continued smooth running! We're waiting for him in Tamanrasset, as coiled springs...
You might be interested to know that there's a parallel thread following the Challenge on the Private Aviation forum of PPrune.
Safe flights, Sam.

He's done it!
It's the Hat Trick.
Apparently he doesn't have to land, just be overhead below 1000ft - hence the 200kts when 900m away!
All three, good job!
Safe flights all, Sam.
