Garmin and the Great Road Map Conn

If anyone is thinking of taking their aviation GPS and updating the database to include SA based road maps....think again.

The SA based maps ( Garmap ) sell the software at a R1000 plus R100 for the CD.....

It makes cents to rather buy the entry level Nuvi 200 at R1600 thru Game and rather sell your older aviation GPS instead.

That makes the Nuvi cost R 500....not bad for a unit which will give your better road functionality, touch screen, audio prompts and auto-routing which older units like my 196, do not have.

So much for the Garmin idea of having air/road and sea functionality.....did not bother to find out how much the sea database costs...

The Garmin roadmap database is even more expensive and does not include neighbouring countries....

Anyone got an idea on how move my database from my Nivi to my 196...

Should have stuck to a TomTom.....

Anyone want a good second hand 196.....
