Some more thoughts on malaria:
the doctor at the Exotic Diseases Center here in Hungary said that the usual antimalaria drugs that they recomend for tourist can put you in a nonflying situation. Side effects like nausea, even minor hallucination are a nogoer if you want to be in command. not to mention that on longterm they cause serious liver and other problems.
It is better to carry Coartem. In case you get malaria this will cure you in a few days. Also in Botswana it seems that malaria is not a big thread. I checked with a fellow Hungarian flying in Chad and Congo who's had malaria 2 years ago. He also used Coartem. Later never had problems again.

Maun guys told me that it is up to you what shots you get but those are mainly a waste of money. And these things agree with what the guys said here above. Have a net and spray yourself.

Nyathi, is it still true that at Audi you get some discount if you tell them that you are a pilot wannabe?

5 finger discount. You don't need to ask. Alternative shoppers pass through periodically and will give wholeheartedly. A problem Audi's Camps just refuses to address. I've personally known about this for about 15 years. You can read more in the archives of the Ngami Times.

When you get to Audi Camp, ask to speak to Ron or Bob. They are the two main managers at Audi Camp. They are super nice people. But I'm not sure whether they still give discount, I know they use to!

Maun 2009 - 2010

As the year end comes close its the hiring time in Maun. I have done enough researches on this site , google and various other sites and blogs. Have the sites and names of the companies and have mailed them my cv. But as said didnt get any response.

I just want to ask a few questions:-
1. Will the chance of getting hired over there be the same as before after this big
economic slowdown?
2. How long should I plan before I can think of getting hired in Maun?
3. What should be the avg living cost in Maun?

If anyone going there this year end let me know...
My e-mail is [email protected]

Thnks for your ans in advance...

As this thread is getting long and unwieldy, it is perhaps time to link it to a new thread for the 2009/10 season. This one is now closed, and a new one follows here.
