Johannesburg advise

Have not been in Johannesburg in years and have to fly a corporate airplane there in a couple of weeks. Staying there overnight or possibly two nights then heading out again.

Anyone has any suggestions on descent hotels in Johannesburg and not too far from the airport? We usually use Marriott but none in the country so Hilton is next on the list.

TIA,

CD

JNB Airport

Try Emperors Palace.
There are a few hotels in the complex and its right next to the airport.

There used to be a Holiday Inn at that charming place near the Vaal where a treaty was once signed.

Vereeniging !

Try Connie's Guest House!!

Johannesburg is not Paris, Hilton is not well represented. If you are in the descent in the hotel league, look for the Sun in the Southern hemisphere.

Pip Pip!

Oh, enjoy the stay, Randburg bus station is the most convenient and safe, for you, place to buy an AK47.

Sandton City Hilton is very comfortable.

Was there a few months back, Emirates use the hotel too if that means anything.

30-45 min drive to the airport, plenty of shops and eating places close by, even within walking distance too.

Joburg hotels

Virgin & BA use the Sandton Sun & Towers, (which has a direct & safe skywalk into the Sandton City Mall); the other hotel that is popular with crew is the Balalaika in Village Walk (about 5mins down the road from Sandton Mall).

Emperor's Palace is right by the airport, but there is nowhere to (safely) go out from there - as for the hotel...think Las Vegas meets Blackpool

I live in Joburg and always recommend our visitors stay in Sandton, unless you come into Lanseria which has a lot of nice game-lodge type places close by. Most bizjet traffic doesn't go into JNB (or "ORTIA" as it's now properly known), Lanseria handles most corporate traffic - do you know for sure where you're routing? (Oh and you can't get AK's in Randburg anymore, only RPGs! )

Keith,

We are going into Lanseria.

Thx,

CD

PS Had enough of AK's and RPG's in a previous life. None needed now!

Inter Continental, Monte Casino. 20 minutes from Lanseria. The Keg, across the road, is the Head Office for the Fourways based pilots!!!

Shumba Valley Lodge & the Hertford Hotel are right by FALA, but Monte at FourWays will give you more to do/places to go without needing a car.

Enjoy your flight!
