Plane crashes in Angola
Luanda - An Angolan Airlines plane crashed on landing at an airport in northern Angola on Thursday, killing six people, news reports said.
The Boeing 737 plane carrying 78 people crashed when it landed at an airport in M'banza Congo, a town about 300km north of the capital, Luanda, state news agency Angop reported from the scene.
Officials could not immediately confirm the accident.

M'BANZA CONGO, Angola (Reuters) -- A Boeing 737 belonging to Angola's state TAAG airline has crashed in the northern city of M'banza Congo, killing at least six people and badly injuring others, Angola's ANGOP news agency reports.
The airplane was carrying 78 passengers and was en route from Luanda to M'Banza Congo, which is in northern Angola near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The agency said the plane lost control while making an emergency landing and crashed into a building, destroying it. It said a number of severely injured passengers were taken to hospital for treatment.
The agency said among those killed in the accident Thursday was the municipal administrator of M'Banza Congo and a senior Roman Catholic priest from Italy.
It said the cause of the accident was under investigation.
The crash came on the same day that the European Union added TAAG Angolan Airlines to a list of international airlines barred from flying in its airspace due to safety reasons.
TAAG, Angola's flag carrier, flies to a number of destinations in Angola as well as cities in Africa, Europe and South America.
Angola's worst recent year for air accidents occurred in 2000, when two separate crashes claimed 87 lives in the southwest African country in one month.
In the first crash, a Russian-built passenger plane crashed after exploding in the air in northeast Angola, killing all 48 people aboard. UNITA rebels, who at the time were engaged in a bitter civil war with Angola's Russian-backed government, claimed responsibility.
Two weeks later a Russian-built Antonov airplane crashed near the capital Luanda, killing all 39 people aboard

Ref: The above 727 crash. We were sent in to salvage what was left of the aircraft. Within a few days everything had been stripped, wiring instrumentation you name it. There was a furrow of some sorts approximately 1 metre deep at the beginning of he runway and the aircraft landed short, put the main gear into the ditch where it was subsequently ripped off. If I remember rightly the left main gear tore off the left engine and the aircraft came to a stop on the right side of the runway resting on top of a house. By the picture you can clearly see how close the houses were to the side of the runway!

I remember a few years ago when TAAG got its first 747. The first crew were washed out for incompetence, The second lot of crew were trained under new instructors, because the the crew weren't the problem, the instructors were.
I also remember TAAG flying GPS let-downs because the radio beacons at ALL airfields were U/S. Apart from the NDB at Luanda.
What can one expect from those situations?

Notwithstanding this latest and other frequent unfortunate incidents, we all know about the lacking standards of aviation in Angola. This is a country where the dollar rules and bribery is rife.
Any country where the President's daughter can take over the secondary industry and have her opposition merely "kicked-out" is a matter for concern. After all - who is going to challenge such influence (Gemini Airlines - Sorry - had to be said!).
Somehow it is not surprising that the EU has finaly banned TAAG. All the new aircraft in the world are not going to change the Angolan's standards and approach to safety and efficiency.

6 dead onboard when the plane crashlanded and hit two buildings and a car,
one on the ground died as well.
Seem like they where using STP Airways from Sao Tome and Principe as well before, but these two flight to Portugal has been banned as well
