Job Post Deleted ?

Dear Mods:

Yesterday I found a job post for a Jakamaka Express in Malawi. I posted the info here in the Africa forum as there are lots of young, lower-time guys looking for jobs and I thought someone might like to know about it.

This morning, the post seems to have disappeared ( or at least I cannot find it even with the "search" function ).

Was there something amiss about this information ?

Perhaps you should enquire with the moderator?

If somebody wants to advertise a vacancy, they are very welcome to do so by following this link.

It is an expensive site to run and advertising revenue helps offset the cost.

I wasn't advertising a vacancy. I was posting a job I saw on an obscure, free job site thinking some young birdman over there might end up with a paycheck if he knew where to look.

I have no connection with the company...my mistake...won't happen again...I promise.

Thumbs down

Had the same bad luck with a post being deleted, coz I thought it might be nice to let some local guys know that they should send CV's to management so maybe I wouldn't have to fly with foreigners from half the world away.

Seems that the prune management seems to think that just mentioning a job that you know of is stealing advertising revenue from Danny's mouth. Guys, as aircrew at the coalface we sometimes hear of things going on before they become "official", and we'd like to pass that info on to our collegues either before it's officially advertised to the world by the companies concerned, or pass obscure gen to a wider audience. Sometimes posting job info isn't done by companies for "free" on pprune.

I don't want to get too involved in debating the finer points of this, but I accept what you both say. If you scan the forums you will see plenty of examples of somebody informing others about recruitment or job vacancies and it is usually clear that the information is in itself the subject for a thread. On the other hand there are plenty of posters who try their luck and try and place a free ad on the forums with an "e-mail me" or "PM me" type rider on the end.

In between, it becomes a subjective judgement call. If it reads or sounds like an advert then it is likely to be treated in that category. If it reads or sounds like general information then it is likely to remain in situ subject to the overall management veto of course.

We spend a lot of time trawling for spam and free advertising on the forums and removing it. It is inevitable that sometimes well intentioned and perhaps modifyable posts get swept up in the process. We do understand the distinction between posting some useful advice or information for job seekers, and the placing of an obvious or covert advertisement for free. Unfortunetaly it isn't always possible to apply the time to a post to make a more in depth appraisal and as a result it occaisionally becomes a casualty of the process.
