The rumour is correct according to African Flyer as well
Kulula.com has announced that it will begin services between Lanseria and Cape Town begining in March, while maintaining flights out of Johannesburg to Cape Town. Lanseria Airport is situated close to Johannesburg’s northern suburbs, giving residents from Sandton, Randburg, Fourways, Pretoria, Midrand and Krugersdorp a less congested alternative to Johannesburg airport in the south, while also allowing the airline to operate from a less expensive airport. The new route will initially be operated with one flight per day.

I frequently fly to JHB and really enjoyed the Sun Air service to Lanseria, so much easier to get into JHB and much smaller terminal, no traffic etc etc.
Reason SAA failed is the prices, on average they wanted R3000 return to Lanseria when you could do it for R800 on Kulula, 1Time or themselves to FAJS.
Sounds good to me Kulula, go for it, you'll have my support

Wasnt SAA who operated out of Lanseria, it was Airlink. The reason they gave up the route was due to equipment shortages that forced them to use a leased F28. The problem with that was the aircraft was a tad on the unreliable side and let to lots of delays and that sort of thing.

Is the airport management going to upgrade their nav facilities (ILS) to accommodate the scheduled operations. The current system is not reliable which could result in flights getting diverted to JHB in case of bad wx.

Hi Gunship
So there was a good reason Noah was told to take 'two' of each into the Ark. Two is a
fantastic little number and it makes perfect sense that most things work better in pairs.
Think 'knife and fork' or 'a pair of hands' - they just work because they have two of the
same (okay, so a pair of left hands would be pretty useless, but who cares, it's called poetic
license - work with us here.)
Anyway, since 'two' held up on your fingers is also the sign for 'peace', we've got two
things to tell you:
1) We've given East London our best shot, and unfortunately it's just not cutting it, so
we've stopped our flights on the route. It turns out that London is nowhere near East
London. Sorry East Londoners, we still love you though.
2) And, we're going to start flying two new routes (which are also nowhere near
London either):
Lanseria Cape Town
and
Jo'burg Lusaka (in Zambia, silly)
So the next time you book your flight online, you'll notice two two more flying options.
Lanseria Airport is terrific news for you if live in the northern suburbs of Jo'burg,
Centurion, Midrand, West rand and even Pretoria. Why, you ask? Because this airport is
hellava convenient for you, and parking there is so easy.
Our two new routes start flying at the beginning of March so get ready to grab yourself a
great deal online.

I think this might actually work this time. An airline operating out of Lanseria. I know that it's been tried before, and has performed poorly, but for the first time, the tickets are cheaper than return to London!!!!!!!!! Problem with Airlink and the others that preceded, was that they thought that the traveling public was stupid enough to not care about price. Just tried to book in March. R449.00 one way to CT. Thats worth it, and I will without doubt use them in future at that price. Good luck KULULA.....
