Pilot killed in crash
27/08/2005 11:29 - (SA)

Johannesburg - A Nigerian man was killed in a light aircraft crash near Umhlali, north of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Saturday.

Inspector Michael Read said 36-year-old Anton Wager took off from the Umhlali Airfield in his microlight aircraft on Friday, and never returned.

Read said police were notified and a search ensued on Friday. The airwing search was later called off due to bad weather conditions.

Read said a search began early on Saturday morning and the microlight aircraft was found at 08:00.

The Civil Aviation Authority is investigating the cause of the crash.

Wind was blowing at about 20 to 30 knots in Natal on Friday not a good time to be flying in a microlight.
