Qwila Air : Friend or Foe?

Is this the company that would revolutionize the aviation industry? The man behind Qwila is the same man who ran Rossair when it was successful. And when he left Rossair cracks began to show. He opened Solenta, which was a great success, only to be rammed into the ground and stood on by fat jealous people, that now has unhappy pilots having to choose between their lives and their livelyhood.

Hopefully, this man sticks around long enough to prove once again how a successful company is SUPPOSED to operate.

In my opinion, Qwila is our best friend.

Thumbs up

Yes, this man is really one of the good guys in the South African aviation industry and he helped me a lot in the past. I would think about joining them if I would not have such a good job here in Europe. I wish Mr. BJ all the best and a lot of fun with Quila Air.

Did it ever occur to you that he sold the company for a hansome price and was not forced out, this at a time that the company was very weak and about to colapse.

Is this not the same guy that:

* Went bankrupt when he ran his own business outside Aviation.
* Drive expensive cars X5 and R1m Jaguar.See the ex Ross guys
get flack for the same thing.
* Promised the ex Ross staff jobs that never happened.
* Spend more time on the Golf course and Cassino than in the
office.
* Done an aircraft partnership with his best friends that went sour. He was never part of it.

Sorry but I do not share that same warm feeling.

Namib,
I think his personal life is not for public comsumption, however none of us are perfect and I,m sure you not.
B.J is one of the nicest people and I would work for him at anytime of day or night.
It,s true that when he left Tossair the cracks started to appear.
It,s also true that he use to request a bank statement on a daily basis to see how the finances were being managed.
What us engineers and pilots must realise is that aviation is a cut throat bussiness and somebody will do anything to fornicate a person or another comapany to enrich themselves.Such is life and it will get worse.
I also think when one critisizes one should also praise.

Namib, it seems that whatever BJ has done in AVIATION has been a success. He has proved himself in AVIATION. What has his previous business before AVIATION got to do with anything???? And just for the record, he is one of the very few hands - on directors that i have ever had the honour of meeting. He didn't PROMISE anyone permanent empolyment. And did you know that some of the ex - rossair guys actually let him down??? the ones that were offered something? of course not! how would you know that! He is doing what is within his power to do, and providing where he can. If he wants to drive an X5 then he can. Don't you think he worked hard for that?????? Notice that he does NOT have the R1M Jaguar anymore? Ever stop to think that he sold it to drive something cheaper? Besides, what he does with his OWN HARD EARNED MONEY is his perogative is it not? Ever stop to think that he was ENTERTAINING CLIENTS on the golf course? Or that he had taken clients out to lunch at the Casino??? Have you ever noticed that he was always at work on weekends and working late at night? Have you stopped to think that maybe he doesn't have to come in because he has hired STAFF to do a job and they do it well?

And the best friend thing - he betrayed BJ, not the other way around. Maybe you should consider that there are 2 sides to every coin. HEADS OR TAILS?

Some people know the truth and are willing to accept it, others prefer speculation and rumours.

You guys are cooking with gas! Great thread - pretty borderline stuff but nothing more than dirty laundry. Please keep it nice. I have always had the greatest respect for BJ - always a smile on his dial & time to engage in conversation; a successful businessman - sure some folk probably feel a little trodden on and clearly there are a few who clearly resent the trappings that come with personal success. Well that's my opinion.

Thumbs up Qwila Air

Namib, I think you're in the minority here.

Manny and Smokey, I agree with you. I also had the PLEASURE of working with and under BJ for many years and enjoyed the experience as well as learning from it. Yes he can be hard and abrasive, but how else does one make a success of an AVIATION venture?
While at Rossair, all his time and energy were devoted to making it a success. At Air Lesotho he really tried hard to make it work. I wish him all the best with his latest venture.
Go BJ. ( Maybe time for a cool one in the "Z" pub??)

This should not even be a thread. Good guy, asset to aviation in SA, apart from everything else created lots of jobs along the way, could go on indefinitely.

I would have to say that some comments to the contrary may be just a case of tall poppy syndrome!

Qwila Air: Friend or Foe?

Please do not e-mail CV's directly to Bruce as he is away often and they are not dealt with. Please kindly send them to [email protected] and they will be dealt with.

For the moment, however, we have no vacancies and will give first option to the first class ex-Rossair cream of the crop pilots, if there are any left as we already have them under the most awesome companies umbrella.

Nothing stopping Solenta guys from applying to Qwila. Solenta still appears to be an operating concern as well, so not sure what your gripe is....

Slave wages? That's a general malaise in South African aviation. There are many without a job who would not complain, which, I suppose, is why it happens...

AF1

Not quite on the button but close enough for government work.

Slaves get to drink a few beers occasionally so it's not all bad....

Rumour has it that Quila's pay is pretty good - Anybody got some specifics? I've only got ballpark figures. What are the chances this raises the game for the other companies? (As if!) And they seem to have the Paki and Jordan contracts too, is that the case?
