Bellview Lagos

Jambo!

This is my first post on the African Forum so please excuse any ignorance of aviation matters - African.

I have just been offered a 767 200 command with Bellview at Lagos. Since I have never heard of Bellview and never been to Lagos (though have heard plenty) I was hoping some kind soul might let me know what I might be letting myself in for if I accept.

Thanks in advance.

Bellview

Hello,

I will not pretent to know first hand anything about Bellview but I have been following them since the start in 1993. Now they have 5 Boeing 737-200s. Two Boeing 767-200s are now almost ready for delivery (read previous posts about Bellview with 767 photos). They now fly domestically from Lagos as well as to cities along the West Coast of Africa. I am not sure where they intend to fly the long haul equipment but they have hinted about resuming Mumbai (India) and Johannesburg (South Africa). Note that Bellview has had long haul experience from 1997 to 2001 with the Airbus A300. They flew to Amsterdam, Rio de Janeiro, Nairobi and Mumbai.

I have read mixed reviews about Bellview. On one hand, they are the most respected Nigerian independent carrier, being the most reliable and also the one with an intact safety record. They have been financially stable and pay their aircraft leases on time. Their management includes aviation professionals which is a welcome difference from other local operators which are run like bus services.

On the other hand, I do not think you should expect an operation like South African Airways or even Kenya Airways. They are relatively a small airline by your standards but personally, I find that much more interesting. Think of it as an adventure.

Living in Nigeria as well could be tough if you are not open minded, patient and relaxed. If you go, try to make the best out of it. Nigerians are generally very friendly and cheerful.

Do you mind me asking about your nationality? the employment conditions? pay is good? accomodation? Do you know what they will take delivery of the 767 and on which routes it will be deployed?

I wish you best of luck,

Rani

Bellview is an ok company. One man show, but he tries to keep things as professional as possible. Like Rani said not your typical privately held african shindig. just make sure no arreas in salary. but you will be paid when due.

Cheers
