Nigeria 22 Year Rule
I heard a rumour that Nigeria is allowing BAC 1-11 aircraft back in after a ban from several years ago.
Anyone know if this is definite and also if this means a relaxation in the 22 year rule - i.e. the rule that bans all aircraft older than 22 years old coming onto the Nigerian Register??

I seem to have several friends in Nigeria who keep emailing me offering to let me have 10% of some money they have just nicked.

Some airlines such as EAS and CAL still pay parking fees for their grounded BAC 1-11s in Nigeria. Maybe this is a sign that Airline Operators of Nigeria expects yet another change in policy?

Capt. Idris at EAS now has his B737-200 and Chanchangi are/have been looking for B737-300's in addition to the younger than 22 year 727's they bought...
Cant see these 2 carriers at least supporting the return of the 1-11's especially as they have stood idle for some time and will require considerable catch up mx. and AD work to return to service (legitimately) now.
There is pressure to allow a relaxation on the rule for cargo acft especially as all the non Nigerian cargo operators such as MK with DC8's and 747's have aircraft way beyond 22 years.
In my opinion long may it continue as it will stop a majority of the idiots just thinking they can buy a run out aircraft from the desert and fly it without support or satisfactory business plan - might just end up with a half decent Nigerian airline industry with sensible long term investment

Interesting point. Is it just me or the number of new entrants has decreased recently? Only Slok, Spaceworld and perhaps another couple recently appeared, although the former is still grounded.
Anyone knows the price by which 'new' 737-300s sell ? I bet plenty of cheap 737-300s are now idle in Mojave, dumped by struggling American carriers.

B737-300s were avilable on sensational terms last year. They're not now. A lot of would-be start-ups who were planning on taking mid/late '80s -300s at anything down to $70k/month have missed the boat.
But if you believe Michael O'Leary there'll be further fall-out later this year from the LCC sector. But don't hold your breath just yet - O'Leary's primary agenda in saying that was to make it more difficult for start-ups to get finance.
