15 May 747 Engine failure Garuda 1105

Indonesian flag carrier said the Garuda-1105 flight to Madinah – operated by a Boeing 747-400 – returned to its original airport in the Indonesian city of Makassar at 5:15 p.m., with all passengers unhurt.

Question can the engine pylon be replaced in the field or will it need to be flown to a maintenance facility?

My little experience with pylon fire and overheated areas: the paint on the struts or similar painted structures will show an indication if excess heat has reached them, an NDT hardness test would be used to qualify.
The B747's can do 3 engine ferry (Special OP's if the appropriate SB has been purchased); depending on availability of a complete second hand pylon, this might be considered an easier option; but likely only panels needed and perhaps non metal parts like fuel and hydraulic hoses, some wiring harness.
Though I should expect Garuda has capability to support this replacement task at Makassar, or 2 hour ferry to Jakarta or at a Singapore facility.

It looks like an uncontained turbine failure because the right side turbine cowl is missing.
The panels that are burned up are composite access panels.

The engine mount in that area is a diagonal strut that attaches to the wing toward the back of the pylon.

Relatively small airline, probably multi million dollar bill for engine change and lost revenue. I wonder who carries the economic risk?

In the early 1980's Douglas engineers replaced a wing (or most of it) on a DC-10 that had run off the end of what is now the crossing runway at Hassanudin.

I logged this in another post on here several years ago.

"Indonesian flag-carrier" - I suspect that is your answer
