Maybe when one is expressing ones point of view, one should have the facts.
Having first hand experience with the shearers strike let me point out that the wide combs were not the main issues in this industrial matter. The huge influx of kiwi shearers resulted in our annual shearing season going from 11 months employment to 6 months. They worked for less per sheep, they worked on sat and sun (this was taboo in the excisting award), they shore cancer and disease ridden sheep (taboo), they slept and lived in less than adequate dwellings eg tents, cars, the shearing shed itself (all taboo)...the list goes on and on.
I am neither a unionist nor a scab.
In the future consider all the facts before making statements presented as fact.
ps. It is a documented fact that NZ's have taken advantage of industrial disputes in this country over many years in many different industries to their advantage and our disadvantage, ie shearing industry, SEQEB dispute, previous and present aviation disputes and many more. Open your eyes up.!
