If you lock your brakes on a glazed surface, you will continue on a ballistic trajectory - even though you may pivot. So if you are already on a safe trajectory - in this case straight down a glazed, unbanked runway, you can be assured that you will stay on that runway by locking the brakes.
This is a case where antilock braking is the last thing you want. If you do not lock your brakes, you are likely to pivot anyway - but with a bit of steering that could send you off the edge of the runway.
Of course a jet also has thrust and reverse thrust. I will leave it others to decide what level of skill would have been required to deal with the situation that way.
