Alitalia was the airline that I was referring to earlier this year. I was genuinely surprised to hear that they are moving to Stansted, as form non-airport sources, there was an agreement to move the Heathrow operation in it's entirety to Luton!
Seeing that Luton has gone out of its way not to offer any facilities that a flag carrier would be looking for, they should count themselves lucky to have Tarom and El-Al.
All that would happen if Alitalia came to Luton is that their former Heathrow passengers would migrate to the likes of BA. The rest would head for Gatwick with very few being prepared to pay a premium fare for the delights of Luton and a ride on the airports infamous shuttle bus and a seat on the floor.
The above comments also applies to Stansted but at least the rail service would be without the bus.
