As a HEMS pilot, I wear a helmet, flying suit, boots and gold bars. Some of it is for safety, some for corporate image.
When I fly private aeroplanes, I wear long trousers, 2 layers long sleeves. This is for fire protection. If I was instructing, white shirt minimum, maaaaaaybe gold bars, once again for professional image.
Why use a flying suit??? An old friend crashed his Kitfox on take off and it burned. He had minimal injuries due to flying suit, long johns and leather gloves. His passenger in jeans and shirt was badly burned.
Mock all you want, but it is YOU that has the problem. Motorcyclists/cyclists/horse riders/canoeists/parachutists etc ALL wear protective gear, why not pilots?
