Parking is another area that is straining under 15.5 million passengers that was meant to be good for 18 million passengers.

I have noticed twice this week that the short term car park has had to be closed due to a lack of parking spaces and that is despite many cars parked where they are not meant to park. Approximately 570 spaces will be lost from the existing short stay car park to accommodate the proposed temporary drop off zone and MPT construction compound at the east of the site later this year. This is just a shade over a 50 % reduction. Interesting times ahead for next year when the car park can't cope with this year.

At some point all of the car park will have to be closed as the open half will become a construction site for the second CTA multistory which will happen maybe around the year 2020 or 2021 after the rail link opens.

The existing multistory is also looking rather full these days apart from rows of disabled parking bays that remain empty. The top two floors are used for priority parking which has overflowed to a compound opposite the Ibis hotel. Nice sturdy 10ft fence on one side and completely open on the other that backs onto Airport Way. All of the airport car parks are meant to be Car Mark Safety certified but maybe that doesn't count as a car park.

Later this year or early next year a further 780 spaces will be permanently lost and 290 spaces temporarily lost in the mid term car park due to the route for the rail link passing through the middle of the car park. 1040 paces will be created by a multistory that will be built in that car park but that won't compensate for the lost spaces in the short term.
