Construction update

First update in three weeks so here goes:

Work has started outside the Holiday Inn on the centre island of the dual carriageway. A well placed new sign is half hidden by a small tree.

Work continues on the road junction to the mid term car park. A new crossing point is being put in so for the first time passengers can walk to the terminal from the Mid Term. Also a new bus stop is going in on the outbound carriageway just out of shot to the left.

People here will have gathered that I am not too impressed by the new "Tesco" style walkway, which is nothing like the signature offerings from the artist impressions. The airport have given the walkway the Luton treatment so it now has a distinct and unique appearance with the adding of guttering pipework that crosses the walkway just above head height in several places. This has saved a few feet of underground drainage being installed.

This whole area would look so much better if it was slabbed in stone rather than tarmac.

The first of the new entrances is being clad in a distinctive yellow with the framework for windows also being installed.

The old ground floor terminal offices are being gutted. Also the old window frames are being removed. Brickwork on the pillars have been removed to allow the terminal extension to be attached.

Work continues around the CTA roundabout which is part opened. With all passenger traffic being directed away from here there is not much traffic now heading for this point. Shuttle buses to the station have been moved while their parking area is concreted.

Work on the Southern Apron extension is progressing towards the taxiway.
