The issue is you have a bunch of people pulling in a bunch of different directions; each with their own agenda. And an uncanny propensity not to tell the truth of the situation you are in and what you need. Or admit that you were wrong and need to try something else.

And that stealing good ideas is no crime--listening to others who've been there and found something that works is a good thing (even if these ideas are much different than your own).

This is coupled with 'top down' edicts of just about everything with little want or ability for critical information to flow in the other direction (much less be acted upon). A bunch of messengers who cannot or do not want to help steer the ship in the right directions. But would rather issue dictatorial edicts in their little sub-empire and keep their head down.

You don't know what you don't know and it's sometimes very right to be very wrong (and promptly admit it). The nice thing about experience is that you get to be wrong enough that one more time isn't really a big deal (so long as you manage to stay alive along the way). But it's helpful to listen to others who are telling you you're headed for a collision (or down the wrong path) and fix it before you get there.

If you're always telling your boss how right he is you're not a particularly useful employee.
