Oldart, I bet thick fog does effect the trains. Drivers have there electronic gear but if you cannot see the station or the signals I bet it gets interesting.
On the main subject Peel took on another new guy from another airport so this might be some of his ideas coming to fruit.
A bit off topic, but trains are not affected by fog because they have track-mounted warning systems which are making lineside signals increasingly irrelevant, and the latest resignalling projects will dispense with them entirely. The next stage is to do without the driver.
