I have used your KLM "global connection", but it lacks flexibility. Due to delays I was forced to nightstop in Holland as I had no alternate means to get home.
Plus no cost advantage over global connecting using a direct flight from U.K.
If you were going to LBA/NCL had missed the connection at AMS (or LHR/CDG for that matter) you would have had the same problem. The flight timings are pretty much the same for the first and last flights.
