I remember speaking to an US oilman (large major CEO) at Aberdeen Airport about the oil in Scotland (part of discussion on independence but not for here) he explained the North Sea is very much mature and finds are limited. West of Shetland and off the West Coast I.e. Outer Hebrides and Skye down to the Clyde was new frontier but relied upon the price of a barrel!!, also rather intricate environmental concerns plus that no-one wants big ugly rigs in the Clyde or between Skye & Lewis. The other equation will it be easier to base that industry in Glasgow or Belfast rather than Aberdeen. Aberdeen needs to look at where it goes once the North Sea is dry, can it still be centre of the UK/Scottish production or does it need to look at other industries whilst the money is there.
