Redevelopment update.

Signature’s new FBO is not too far from completion. The planned opening date is/was November. As can be seen another section of apron has opened on this side of the building which now seems to be structurally complete.

The mid term car park is being restored to its former shabby appearance with its cinder parking area served by tarmac strips. Fence posts have arrived on site to create a boundary.
A very small section of the duel carriageway has received its first layer of tarmac while the new link road to the fire station is almost complete.

The 1st of 3 sections of the new drop off area has been temporarily opened as an additional parking area for the short term car park. Each of the 4 kerbsides has sufficient space to accommodate only 8 to 9 cars depending how tight cars park next to each other. This is giving a phase 1 capacity of a mere 32-36 cars. The existing drop off area can hold 48 cars with kerbside access and this time last year the capacity was close to a 100 cars.
With work continuing on kerbing for the exit barriers by the multistory car park I am thinking the new drop off area won’t come into service now until the end of the summer peak and that the existing exit barriers in the old drop off zone will be removed to increase traffic flow with customers using the new barriers as they exit the ring road.

As can be seen with no raised kerbs on the return lane for wheelchair access, barriers have been put up to stop people parking on the pavement. The pavement narrows down as it heads in the direction of easyland and is wide at this end due to the entrance and exit route.

Another reason for thinking that the opening is going to be delayed is for some reason the 4th row pavement has only been partially tarmacked with a rough layer even though all the base is in place. As can be seen the area is very tight and is hard to navigate and is not suitable for a drop off zone with high capacity foot traffic.

The entrance and exit is via the small completed section of ring road which is taking two way traffic at the moment.

Work continues at a slow place on the pier B link building where there is usually little activity.

Work continues at a fast pace on the multistory car park where concreting has already reached the top floor on the first third of the building. As can be seen, cement mixers are queuing up as the cement is pumped to the top floor. Much of the rest of the car park is still open to the sky.
