A few years ago I was told to get the work email set up on my iphone. The IT department helpfully provided a form I needed to fill out to be permitted to have my phone connect to the Exchange server. One of the terms I needed to agree to was to grant my employer permission to remotely wipe my phone in the event that they deemed it necessary.
I declined at that point to proceed further, and have never checked my work email outside of the work computer network.
