In recent years I believe the rule that forbade the RFFS attending medical requests was relaxed a bit, certainly airside, and was up to the fire chief's discretion. I don't recall them refusing a plea for assistance, and one incident in particular (a knee injury on stand, which whilst eye-wateringly painful wasn't life threatening) was attended within 2 minutes of making the request.
