Hi all,

nzer, I have worked at quite a few major international airports in NZ, Middle East and Africa, and at most of those the SID or Radar Departures required the aircraft to automatically call radar when airborne.

CT7, most training IFR flights do give some idea of what they will be doing. However, things seem to change fairly often in the cockpit and hence our request for their intention.

One of my pet hates is the call "estimating the aid at..." that seems to be creaping to phraseology at a local training establishement. We have NDB and VOR, and in our procedural environment the seperation minimas are vastly different. Surely "estimating the VOR at (or NDB at )..." would be more proffesional?

Got to agree with Big Kahuna, to work overseas the use of standard phraseology is very important, as many of those flying (or controlling) have English as a second language and non-standard inferences are often lost to the other party. The results could be devastating.
