Well that is not true. From the top of my head Gatwick is 28 miles from London, Luton is 32 miles and Stansted is 34 miles.
As for EI competing with Ryanair at Luton on the Dublin route there is more chance that BA will come to Luton and compete with Easyjet on its core Luton routes
