how do you reckon the "system" would react to someone looking to "reverse" their career - for example someone over 50, done the command thing for 20+ years and wondering what it would be like as a librarian for (if lucky) a couple of years then maybe as F/O flying into the twilight of their career??

They've definately hired pilots in the older age bracket before, knowing that they would probably not be senior enough for a command before probable retirement age.
Having said that, the last time around the majority of recruits seemed to be in their twenties, some in their 30's and a only a few older than that
