Looking at j2, a captain there is about £85k basic, not sure about RYR but I think it's around £80k, although I think you need a 73 rating for direct entry at ryr. Not sure what the net per month of that is. From what I hear Jet2 has very few night flights and start times range from around 4am - 3pm.
I am in a similar position but in the right hand seat in Asia, from my research and looking at a couple of short haul rosters ive been able to get a hold of, you really need to live within 30-45mins of the airport, otherwise the days seem incredibly long.
With regard to the above point, I understand what you're saying and in many respects short haul will be more tiring than long haul. However I don't really think it requires as many bodyclock changes as you potentially have to do on a bad LH roster, on top of that spending days on end in hotels away from family. From the short haul rosters I have seen you don't really seem to have to stray too far from your home timezone and the fact you can return home to your own bed everynight seems a huge plus.
That being said no matter whether you are LH or SH I'm sure people will always find something to moan about.
