Presumably the mid term extension is to provide the shortfall from the loss of the short term car park whilst all the work is carried out.
The midterm car park extension is to replace part of the midterm car park that will be lost when the taxiway extension to 08 is built next year.
While there were good reasons why it was difficult to extend the taxiway to the end of 26 that didn't seem to apply to the 08 end so maybe the car park extension was more of a priority as the western end of the car park extension boundary is the point where the land drops away so the car park extension could have been a longer taxiway to the end of 08
