Whitemountain has won the £13M contract to manage the construction and civil engineering of landside infrastructure and transport facilities at Luton airport.
Part of the Lagan Group, Whitemountain has already started work to convert the existing terminal building approach road into a dual carriageway, redevelop the short stay car parks and on-airport road network, remodel the set-down area and reposition the coach terminal.
“There is a big ambition to transform London Luton Airport and we’re very happy to be delivering works on landside infrastructure and transport facilities,” said Whitemountain commercial manager John Donaghy. “The work we are delivering will be designed to improve access, circulation and parking facilities. This is necessary to support the Terminal Expansion Project and is at the centre of a wider strategy to improve passenger and airside facilities.
“These types of civil engineering contacts are significant for the company in its growth across the UK and further afield.”
London Luton Airport chief executive Nick Barton added: “The appointment of Whitemountain shows we’re making good progress on the development. The relocation of the security search area will make a positive difference to passengers. We’ve increased the size of this facility and introduced the latest technology which will allow us to speed up the screening procedures and minimisie waiting times.”
The £100M investment will increase airport capacity from 12M to 18M passengers per year by 2026.
