Sadly the 'art' of landing a tailwheel aircraft is becoming a rarity these days. I had the privilege of learning to fly on the Chipmunk and have also flown the Tiger Moth, so can appreciate first hand the technique you refer too. Even today 'newbie' BBMF Pilots start off learning to land from the backseat of the Chipmunk before moving on to the Harvard. Not only does this help with mastering the tailwheel landing technique but also the importance of 'weaving the nose' while taxiing. It may just be a personal thing ... but for me, starting on tailwheels made landing a nose wheel aircraft a little easier
But bringing it altogether with all that torque up front in something like a Spit ... I can only imagine
