I remember those Britannia trooping flights to Germany, when I was a young kid in 1975/76 and about 10yo my uncle was in the RAF based in Gutersloh in the former West Germany, my father took me with him on several occasions to Luton to either pick up or drop off my uncle for his trooping flights to and from Gutersloh and I can remember on one occasion that there was Army personnel with guns on the roof of the then terminal, it was pointed out to me at the time by my uncle as it was at the height of the IRA terrorist campaign, those years were my first visits to Luton Airport all the way from Southampton.
